Project 7

In this lab we created a Flash Portfolio. We used the video from labs 29 and 30 to be the main feature of this page. It is like another home page to our indexes. The coding was really easy in this project because all we had to do was upload the video and make links for the buttons below it. I feel like the colors really complement each other and that I applied graphic design knowledge to make it as appealing as it is. This will definitely be useful in the future because a client or a company may want any of us to develop a website for them. I liked this project a lot and it was a great way to end junior year!

Lab 30

In this lab we used Flash to enhance our videos from lab 29. We used code snippets to determine when our movie clips will show in the video and when they won't. This lab was hard because the troubleshooting and clearing of bugs in the code was annoying. Luckily Mrs. Ramirez sent us the link to a helpful video that cleared up my confusion. In the future, we can enhance videos for employers and clients. This lab definitely was worth doing for the knowledge that I got out of it.

Lab 29

In this lab we made an introductory video. We introduced ourselves, the class, and then went into depth about the class. We described our workload in this class as well as the programs we used. I talked about visual design first, Photoshop and InDesign, then moved on to labs from junior year. This was to build the base for our next work, pop-ups in the video. The video was easy to make, but the only problem I had was seeing the script and looking at the camera at the same time. By the end I feel like I succeeded. The second and hardest part of this lab was moving our .mov file into this html document. First I exported it, then I changed the tag to .mp4. I went to w3 schools to copy the necessary code for putting the video in the file. Luckily it worked out in the end.

flash vid speech

Hi my name is Kevin and I am in the Web design academy at information technology high school. I am 16 years old at this time. Last year when the course was teaching us about visual design principles I really didn’t know much. As the year went on we learned about balance, color combinations, rule of thirds, and other graphic design principles. After grasping core concepts we started doing labs to understand the mechanics of photoshop. This part of the class was really fun because we could be creative and alter images the way we wanted to. Our more formal goals like creating business cards and newsletters required a program that specialized in that sort of objective. Indesign is mainly for text-based documents. I didn’t really like this because it was very fixed with its text boxes and placeholders for images and that sort of thing. However junior year is a lot more fun. We learned to code using text edit and then dreamweaver which was soo much easier. We also completed projects using adobe flash and fireworks. I like junior year better because aside from using visual design skills, we learned new skills that can give us a great paying and enjoyable job in the future. Web design has become one of my passions and I will never stop striving to better myself

Lab 28

In this lab we learned how to use the bone tool. At first it was difficult because I did not know you had to be inside the symbol to create the bone segments. After I learned this the lab became more enjoyable. After all, no one likes being frustrated. This lab will definitely be useful in the future because it taught me to animate symbols using no code at all! Now imagine making a website with the least amount of code with the most possible animation. The tail had the bone tool applied so it can wag. Also the dog's name is Barkly.

Project 5

In this project we made an interactive story. This is my favorite project by far, as of 4/5/16. It was the first project where you can truly make your imaginations come true. My story is about the struggle to get to school on time. The instructions are kind of aggressive but they usually are when pressed for time. There is a secret to this game and you'll probably laugh when you find out. Enjoy!

Project 6

In this project we made a video game. I both enjoyed and hated this project. The flash aspect of it that dealt with images and tweens was so much fun. However, the coding was the worst experience, technologically, that I ever had in my life. The functions were duplicates, the variables were not needed everywhere, and for my life I could not find "missing null references." I managed to add a great soundtrack but it begs out every time you lose or win. It also speeds up every time you lose or win. To avoid problems just refresh the page when restarting the game. This project probably did me good in the long run because I was able to troubleshoot all the problems I was having in order to create a fully functional game. I hope you enjoy the game. Go Yellow!

Importance of a CTE Expo

Why do we have CTE Expos? It is because we want to spread the word about why freshmen should apply for the best academy ever! Without the CTE expo a few years ago I might not have joined Web Design. I could have been some chump sitting in Apple or Video Production. I am grateful for that and I want to recruit others too. The academy offers a lot of credits, knowledge, and fun. Without the CTE expo, there wouldn't be as much recognition to the academy and application turnout would have been small. It is our responsibility to advertise a program with such a high stack of rewards to the students who might not know.

Armory Trip

We went on a class trip to the armory. This was kind of a mixture of advertising, a college fair, and a job fair. I say this because I was informed about companies like Fiverr, which is like Craig's List for services. I saw some colleges with their tables all set up trying to send kids information. But is was also like a job fair because Youssef got an offer for a job. I came dressed in a suit looking all professional and whatnot... and I was overdressed. Few others came in full business attire. However, I enjoyed it because it made me more aware of how a job fair might actually be. Its not a loss if you learn something.

Historical Society Trip

For a trip the web class of 2017 went to the New York Historical Society. First, we went to Central Park and found out the stories behind statues and objects and overall enjoyed the park. When we went inside, we watched a short film on how New York developed and expanded. We learned about primitive computers and their origins. For example, the first computer was mad to calculate the population of America by turning dials and reading punch cards. We also learned about the development of long range communications like the first rotary phones and the original "face time." I enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the ancestors of what we try to excel in today.

Professionalism

Professionalism is an important skill to know. It means conducting yourself with responsibility, integrity, accountability, and excellence. This means showing initiative and going above and beyond the expected task. This is important because employers will be inclined to hire and maintain you as a valuable asset to the company. Professionalism should be shown everywhere, even school. This can be done by doing work on time and by performing with better than required quality.

Teamwork

Teamwork is not only beneficial to an employee but also their peers. To work on a team good communication, networking, and critical thinking skills must be in place. After receiving credit for a job well done, sharing the credit enhances team motivation and makes the sharer to have better communication and social skills. "Works well with others" is a key comment that employers look for in a job candidate. Why not be the one to have it on the resume?

Problem Solving

Problem solving is a skill that everyone should be comfortable with in the workplace. This is because there are always going to be unexpected problems, but not everyone can solve them. Solving problems quickly and efficiently can bring a unique sense of ability about an employee through the eyes of the employer. Who knows maybe the solution is promotion worthy!

Communication

Communication is key in the workplace. It is important to know how to express thoughts verbally and in written form because that is how information is spread clearly. For information to be spread clearly, and without errors, people must know what is going on. In terms of web designing, communication is important to understand tasks and desired requests from employers. Proper communication is essential to maintaining an aware group of individuals.

Networking

Networking is important because it can get you benefits not offered to everyone. It can get you the "hook up." This may be a job or a discount or something else beneficial. I am networking by making friends with people who are or know someone with the connection. I know I am doing this right because I can get discounts and job opportunities by just knowing someone who works in the company. In terms of web designing, networking is a huge pro because you can get priority to a job, client, contract, or project. Networking is a skill that everyone should develope

lab 27

In this lab we had to make a short task based "game" using flash. It required a lot of code and troubleshooting. In my case the task was to drive the car into the finish line. If this is done, the player wins. This skill will be useful because it lays down the foundation for the game we will make in a future lab.

Lab 26

In this lab we focused on the coding side of Flash. We gave instructions to certain buttons so that they would execute commands. The car can now move in all direction by clicking the arrows or pressing the keyboard arrows. This skill is useful because it is the foundation of making a game that runs smoothly. I enjoyed this lab because coding is always tedious to learn but allows me to take pride in my final work. http://techteach.us/DD2015/VKevin/labs/lab26/LB26_KevinVeress_DD.html

Lab 25

In this lab we made buttons that seem like they switch the page. However, they do not. This skill is useful for making an interactive website. It would attract a lot of attention and it would bring a site to life. Actionscript really messed me up at first but then I found my bugs.

Lab 23

In this lab we made an animation based on the concept of a vanishing point. We used a bitmap and graphic image to show the vanishing point. It was about 2 cars that are coming and going that appear and disappear from the vanishing point. This is important because if we create anything that is meant to be viewed by a large audience we wouldn't want to mess up the perspective aspect of the animation.

Lab 24

In this lab we used a mask on an animation to make it part of a new animation. It looks like the guy at the bus stop is thinking of driving in a car. The mask can be really useful because it allows you to shape an animation's visible window. This is useful when trying to make a website look appealing. I had fun in this lab because it allowed me to be creative.

Project 4

In this project, we had to develope a short animation themed respect for all. We used Flash to create the animation and we used its timeline to add events and motions. This skill is useful for when we need to display a message in a direct way without recording a skit. A job may ask us to redo this project. It also promotes respect, and in my case tolerance. Do not let the slurs of one man or group define who we are. Have respect for all!

Lab 22

In this lab we added sound effects to the buttons we had already created. Unfortunately GarageBand fused all my sounds together making each click 32 seconds long. To sidestep that obstacle I made it so that they we all the same 3 second long sound. This lab taught me to deal with real world problems critically as well as to use sounds in Flash. The skills will be useful in the future for when I need to add sounds or resolve conflicts.

Lab 21

In this lab we added animations to the symbols we created in Lab 19. We used the timeline to change the position of the symbols then animated it to look like the symbols moved. I enjoyed this lab because it was a lot of fun and allowed me to use my imagination to make something unique. This lab was important because it showed me how to use flash, which will be a useful skill.

Lab 20

In this lab we made buttons out of the already existing buttons. The buttons are interactive and build a good base for making websites interactive. I used visual design principles to make it look pleasing to the eye. This lab can help me in the future because it taught me how making something interactive can make it fun and hold one's attention. My buttons barely do much and I still have fun clicking them.

Lab 19

In this lab we made symbols. They don't do much right now but this lab will be used in further labs as the foundation for learning new skills. This lab is important because it taught me that there needs to be basic shapes before effects can be added.

Lab 18

This lab was to experiment with editing images on Adobe Flash. I made a smiley face and added motion tweens. To conclude the lab I added edits to the coloring too. This lab will be one of the reference labs I use if I don't understand something in a future assignment.

Lab 17

In lab 17 we were introduced to adobe flash. We had to experiment with the possible effect that adobe can do. This lab was about learning how to deal with frames and motion editing. The first row shows a ball moving accross the screen at 3 points at slow, normal, and fast speeds. The next row is the same thing with 5 points though. The final row is the same as the others, however it is one continuous motion with no stops. this was to show the possible flowing motion with varied amounts of points.
